The Kaduna State Police Command has confirmed the release of 10 of the 13 abducted staff of the Zaria Local Government Council Area of the state.

The Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, ASP Mohammed Jalige, confirmed on Sunday in Zaria that the kidnapped staff were released on Saturday.

It added that efforts were on to ensure the release of the remaining three victims.

The PPRO did not disclose whether ransom was paid to secure the release of the abducted staff or not.

The News Agency of Nigeria recalls that on November 8, Deborah Mugu, Director, Education and Social Development; her deputy, Dalhatu Aliyu-Awai; alongside 11 other personnel of Zaria LGA were abducted by gunmen at Kidandan, Giwa Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

A source, who craved anonymity, told NAN that the LGA staff were released after payment of N40m ransom to the kidnappers, stating that family members of the victims contributed the ransom.

He added that the kidnappers failed to release three of the abducted staff as “Only the money was taken to them.

“The freed victims were yet to be united with their families because they were taken to an undisclosed hospital for medical examinations.’’

When contacted, Aliyu Ibrahim, Chairman, Zaria Local Government Area, said he could not comment on the matter.
