Abia National Assembly members bicker over Umuahia-Ohafia-Arochukwu road rehabilitation

Once again, the lawmaker representing Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon Uko Nkole, has said that he facilitated the ongoing rehabilitation of Umuahia-Bende-Arochukwu Road.
Since the commencement of the project, there have been claims and counter-claims between him and Senator Mao Ohuabunwa, who represents Abia North Senatorial District in the Senate, over who attracted the rehabilitation of the road.
Nkole made this latest claim while speaking to our correspondent after the inauguration of the construction of a rural road, which he facilitated in Amangwu Ohafia in Ohafia Local Government Area of the state.
He called on those still doubting his claims to contact the Federal Ministry of Works or go through the proceedings of the House of Representatives on the matter for further clarifications.
The Peoples Democratic Party lawmaker had, during his 2015 electioneering campaign, said, “The road is a disgrace to my people, in particular, and the nation at large.”
Stating that he had executed about 50 projects across the constituency, he added that he had also delivered on his campaign promises on education, health, youth empowerment and human capital development.
During the ceremony, the Deputy Chief of Staff to the Abia State Governor, Chief Ukpai Agwu Ukpai, had insisted that the essence of being in government was to provide the needs of the people.
Ukpai, who commended Nkole for attracting the project, pointed out the need for those in positions of authority to use them to better the lives of their people and the society, in general.
Earlier in his welcome address, the President-General, Amangwu Ohafia Development Union, Chief Olugu Kalu Ugba, said the project, when completed, would contribute to the development of the community.
Later at a stakeholders meeting, members of the area’s chapter of the party, following a motion moved by Barrister Udoh Uduma, which was seconded by Prince Ndubuisi Onugu, adopted Governor
Okezie Ikpeazu and Hon Nkole for second term in office in 2019.
