The Accord party in Lagos State has postponed its local government and state congresses for the election of new party officials to January 10 and January 15, 2022, respectively.

Dele Oladeji, Publicity Secretary of Accord announced this in a statement, on Sunday, in Lagos.

The News Agency of Nigeria says that the party earlier scheduled both congresses for December 15 and December 21, respectively.

The statement quoted Oladeji as saying that the party’s congress committee postponed the exercise to avail members the opportunity to travel during the festive season.

According to it, the party wants to avail every member the opportunity to express their democratic right by being able to participate in the congress.

It, however advised members who might have cause to travel for Christmas and New Year celebrations to be back in Lagos State by early January.

NAN recalls that the Chairman of the 13-man Congress Committee, Oluwarotimi Ajibola, had in November said that the decision to hold the congresses at the earlier dates was reached at the 6th Extra-Ordinary Meeting of the congress committee held at the party’s secretariat in Lagos.

It read that the congress committee promised to hold a rancour-free exercise as campaigns ended on December 12 for the local government congress and December 18 for state congress.
