The President of the African Development Bank, Akinwumi Adesina, has called for bold and innovative measures to combat poverty and accelerate development across Africa.
His call comes as the continent faces mounting challenges, including climate change, global economic turbulence, and rising food insecurity.
Adesina urged leaders of multilateral development banks and the G20 Global Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty to prioritize stronger partnerships and increased resource mobilization during a meeting.
Adesina emphasized the significance of decisive collaboration to tackle urgent challenges and enhance Africa’s development, calling for more daring determination, inventive solutions, and coordinated action on a large scale.
The AfDB’s boss said these at the International Monetary Fund and World Bank annual meetings in Washington, D.C., where he is leading conversations on Africa’s main concerns.
“Our strength lies in consolidating partnerships, mobilizing resources quickly, and deploying them where they are needed most,” Adesina said.
The upcoming Africa Energy Summit is expected to see African leaders endorse an Energy Compact, aimed at accelerating Mission 300’s electrification targets and addressing energy deficits across the continent.
Beyond energy, the AfDB is leading projects in agriculture, infrastructure, and climate resilience, working closely with banks like the World Bank to implement transformative initiatives.
With the IMF and World Bank meetings continuing until October 26, discussions from these forums and upcoming summits are expected to pave the way for renewed efforts to position Africa as a resilient and growth-driven region, despite mounting global challenges.
