Agura of Gbagura, Oba Babajide Bakre, dies, to be buried today

The remains of Agura of Gbagura, Oba Saburee Babajide Bakre, who joined his ancestors on Wednesday afternoon, will be buried today in Abeokuta.

The late monarch, who was the 9th Agura of Gbagura, will be laid to final rest at his late father’s house along Abiola way, Abeokuta.

It was gathered that the remains of the monarch, which were brought in from an undisclosed Lagos hospital, would be buried according to Islamic injunctions.

A family source further disclosed that the remains of the late Oba Bakre would first be taken to Agura’s palace, as a mark of honour and respect before the eventual interment.

The news of his passage was announced by the Osi of Egbaland and Balogun of Ibadan Township, Gbagura, Abeokuta, through Chief Rasaq Adesola Obe, Balogun Ijayekukudi Traditional Council of Chiefs and the Administrative Secretary to the Agura Palace, in the early hours of Thursday.

The message reads,”The Osi of Egbaland and Balogun of Ibadan Township Gbagura Abeokuta has mandated me to inform you that His Royal Majesty Oba Dr Saburee Babajide Bakre Jamolu 11, the Agura of Gbagura has joined His ancestors today 14th June, 2023.

“May Kabiyesi ‘soul rest in perfect peace.May Almighty Allah Grant His Family and Gbagura Chiefs, the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss. Amen.”
