Three days after he tendered his resignation from the ruling All Progressives Congress, the party’s immediate past National Secretary of the Caretaker Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee, John Akpanudoedehe has defected to the New Nigeria Peoples Party.
Following the development, the former Akwa-Ibom North-East Senator picked the state’s governorship ticket of the the New Nigeria Peoples Party as its consensus candidate.
In his acceptance speech at the governorship primary organised by the Akwa Ibom chapter of the NNPP on Monday, Akpanudoedehe thanked the party for finding him worthy of the ticket.
Akpanudoedehe and the former Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Godswill Akpabio have been involved in a power tussle for the control of the APC in the state.
The former APC chieftain, failed in his quest to become the party’s 2023 gubernatorial candidate in the state and accused the national secretariat of the party, Iyiola Omisore of siding with a faction of the party working against his governorship ambition.
