Alaafin of Oyo joins ancestors

The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III, has joined his ancestors. He was 83 years old.

Reports from the ancient town have it that the revered monarch passed on Friday night, at the Afe Babalola University Teaching Hospital, Ado – Ekiti.

And that the remains of the monarch has been transferred back to the ancient town for burial rites.
Oba Adeyemi ruled for 52 years, thus becoming the longest reigning Alaafin.

The demise of the Alaafin would make it the second prominent monarch from Oyo State to die in 2022. Recently, Oba Saliu Adetunji, the Olubadan of Ibadan, died on January 2, 2022.
