Alleged police murder: IG assures of justice

Following the death of a police officer, Mathew Akpos, an Assistant Superintendent of Police, allegedly killed by operatives of the Bayelsa State Command Special Anti-Robbery Squad earlier this month, andthe ensuing protests by aggrieved citizens, the Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase, has appealedfor calm.

 According a statement by Force Public Relations Officer, Olabisi Kolawole, the IG said that the Police authorities had waded into the matter to ensure that justice is served.

  Kolawole stated that on receiving the information, the IGP immediately directed that the matter be investigated.

  The Force PRO disclosed that all the Policemen linked with the killing of the officer had been arrested, detained and were undergoing investigation for subsequent prosecution.

  The statement read,The IGP called on the family and friends of the deceased officer to remain calm and patient as the Police authority will not relent in their efforts to ensure professionalism in carrying out their constitutional assignment.
