Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State was reported to have traveled to France to see the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.

The purported visit is coming amidst the call for the Southern presidency in the People’s Democratic Party.

A chieftain of the APC and ardent supporter of Tinubu, Joe Igbokwe, confirmed this on Thursday.

Igbokwe on his verified Twitter handle page said that this was happening while some persons were “busy abusing and badmouthing persons on social media.”

He recalled that President Muhammadu Buhari was hated and insulted in 2015 and that the same aggression has been transferred to Tinubu.

He said: “While they are on Social Media abusing everybody Gov Wike goes to France to meet Asiwaju. Abuse, calling names, hate and bigotry are no strategies.

“They hated and abused PMB since 2015 and now they have transferred the aggression to Asiwaju. We wait and see.”

Wike had left the shores of Nigeria for a holiday in Turkey on Tuesday.

He shared some pictures of his vacation on his official Twitter handle, where he posed with his Abia State counterpart, Okezie Ikpeazu.

Wike has been involved lately in closed-door meetings with some top politicians who visited his country home in Port Harcourt shortly after the presidential primary and selection of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State as running mate.

Just last week, the governor met with Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Labour Party; Governor David Umahi of the APC; Rabiu Kwankwaso of the New Nigerian People’s Party and the Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed.

The visits were a sequel to a strong rumour of Wike’s alleged plan to dump the PDP after failing to become running mate to Atiku Abubakar.
