Some operatives of Amotekun Corps have allegedly attacked police officers with charms and knives during a novelty football match in Ogun State.

It was gathered that when the police officers and Amotekun operatives engaged in the soccer competition on Tuesday, it resulted into a crisis after the latter team was losing out.

The cops were said to have scored their second goal in the 52nd minute of the quarter-final match before the boisterous Amotekun officers lost control of the ongoing football game organised by Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, Ogun State chapter.

The situation, according to eyewitness, became tensed in the 65th minute of the match when the centre referee, Ayo Amos, awarded a red card to Amotekun defender Akinloye Ismail Babatunde with Force No: AMT/AN/21418 for violent behaviour on police defender, Odukoya Olanrewaju who was also dismissed by the referee for retaliation.

Akinloye, the Amotekun defender who had been sent off, returned to the pitch and attacked Constable Adesina James, a police officer who was playing on the pitch.

Due to the unsavoury development, fans from the stand entered the field of play to save the police officer from the Amotekun operatives.

Unexpectedly, Tejuoso Segun, an Amotekun defender with force number AMT/AS/21201, sprinted off the ground before returning with a charm and a broken bottle to attack Inspector Ogunremi Oluwafemi and inflict a deep cut wound on his lower jaw.

Before being rushed to the hospital for treatment, the injured Inspector Ogunremi laid motionless for a few minutes and in the 67th minute of play, the game was abruptly over.

Reacting to the incident, the chairman of the organising committee of the football competition, Hakeem Akintunde, voiced his displeasure with the actions of the purported security personnel.
