There was anxiety in Anambra State in the early hours of today (Thursday), as some yet-to-be identified gunmen reportedly opened fire on, at least, four mobile policemen at Oraifite, Ekwusigo Local Government Area of the state.
The attack on security personnel on election duty at Oraifite, about 46Kms to Awka, the state capital, has heightened tension within the state hours to the governorship poll.
The bandits were said to have made away with the weapons of the dead security personnel.
However, the actual figure of casualties in the attack could not be ascertained as of the time of filing this report.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Zone 13, Nkeiruka Nwude, in charge of election matter, said that the Force PRO, CP Frank Mba, was in position to react to the incident.
Mba could, however, not be reached as of the time of filing this report as his telephone was switched off.
An eyewitness, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said that both the dead and the injured were taken to a nearby hospital in the area.
