Some schools in Igangan, Ayete and Tapa communities in Ibarapa North Local Government Area of Oyo State, on Monday recorded low turnout of pupils for fear of fresh attacks by killer herders.

Igangan community was thrown into mourning on Sunday as some hoodlums suspected to be killer herders killed no fewer than 11 residents and razed some properties, including a filling station and the palace of the Asigangan of Igangan.

On Monday, some parents were reported to have stormed schools in Igangan and the adjoining communities to withdraw their children as news of fresh attacks filtered in.

The Elenpe of Tapa community, Oba Oyekanmi Titiloye, confirmed the reported withdrawal of pupils from schools in his domain by parents and guardians.

The monarch said, “Parents went to schools on Monday afternoon to withdraw their children and wards due to fear of possible attacks by suspected Fulani herdsmen.

“We couldn’t sleep till this morning. We heard that the Fulani people are strategizing to attack us again but we can’t be too sure.

“There is no presence of security agents here. We need the government now.”
