The front runner for the national chairmanship position of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Senator Tanko Al-Makura has encouraged members of the party who have its interest at heart to join the race so that the chaff will be sieved from the grains.
The former two-term governor of Nasarawa state made the call at the APC Press Corps 2nd Annual Public Lecture Summit in Abuja.
He said the fact that many high-profile members of the party have indicated their interest to serve the party in the capacity of national chairman is proof that the ruling party is still loved and cherished by members.
“I am very impressed and elated by the quality of aspirants. It is a sign of a good omen for the party. I will be happy to see more aspirants before the National Convention so that we can sieve the chaff from the grains.”
He noted that the ruling APC requires such a quality leadership that will distinguish it from the rest and added that he has all the qualities that will suit the party’s transformation in the lead to the 2023 general elections.
The serving senator insists that the APC remains a party to beat in the forthcoming elections and maintained that the choice of its national chairmanship will form the basis of retaining the Aso Rock Presidential Villa.
He said, “Having served the country in various capacities, particularly in elective positions, I am one of the few that know what it takes to transform a party and will bring this to bear if elected the national chairman of our great party.
“APC is not just a political party. It is in the hearts of Nigerians who strongly believe in the calibre of politicians in the party and our programmes for the people and country. Therefore, I fit into the desire of Nigerians for APC which is a quality national chairman who will lead the party to meet the aspirations of the people.”
