The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has finally settled for its first option of consensus for the choice of its National Chairmanship position in today’s National Convention at the Eagle Square, Abuja.

The party heirachy secured the withdrawal of the other six aspirants to the post and eventual endorsement of Senator Abdullahi Adamu as the consensus candidate less than 12 hours to the convention.

A letter signed by the former governor of Benue State and Minister of Special Duties and Inter Governmental Affairs, Senator George Akume, stated that they agreed to the appeal of the President asking them to agree to a consensus arrangement.

The letter reads, “May I kindly refer to the appeal by Mr. President for the Chairmanship aspirants of our great party, to agree to a consensus arrangement wherein our colleague Senator Abdullahi Adamu is made our consensus candidate for the Chairmanship position and forward letters of withdrawal from the underlisted aspirants to wit.”

In a related development, an aspirant who preferred anonimity told The Point in the early hours of today that their decision to withdraw from the race was to reaffirm to the President that they cannot offend him.

He said though the decision was too hard to take, yet they needed to prove to the President that they are in no way against his choice.
