The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has reiterated its readiness to conduct a hitch-free governorship primary which will see it emerge with a flag bearer ahead of the 2023 election.

Chairman of the party in the state, Cornelius Ojelabi gave the assurance while speaking with The Point about the party’s state of preparedness for the governorship primary and general election next year.

Ojelabi noted that all misunderstandings among aggrieved party members in the state have been settled and are all giving their support for a successful primary.

Ojelabi said, “You can see how members of our party have been performing and how they’ve been supporting the party. We’ll continue to do that.

“There are bound to be issues here and there and it’s our responsibility to make sure that we resolve them. As we speak, we are ready for the primary, all of us,” he assured.

The defection of a former Lagos APC chieftain and now Lagos PDP governorship aspirant, Abdul-Azeez Olajide Adediran, along with his loyalists in the Lagos4Lagos Movement, not forgetting the uncertainty surrounding the loyalty of the former Lagos governor, Akinwumi Ambode, many believe may affect the party at the state polls in 2023 and play to the advantage of the PDP.

He however, downplayed thoughts of the possibility of the PDP breaking the jinx by winning Lagos at next year’s election, regardless of the appreciable number of defections from the ruling party to the main opposition.

“The PDP will always give a challenge; they are a political party like APC. Going to the polls, we know we have the people, the people believe in our activities, they believe in what we have done and that’s what will vindicate us.

“They have been agitating to rule Lagos State as far back as 1999, and it has not been possible for them, and this one is not going to be an exception. The election will come and go. So, we are prepared for the election,” he stated.

The National Working Committee of the party in its latest adjusted schedule of activities for the primaries, fixed the governorship primary for Thursday, May 26, 2022.
