The Nigerian Army, 81 Division, has disclosed that there will be a 21-artillery-gun salute to honour late former head of the Interim National Government, Ernest Shonekan.
The Division’s spokesperson, Major Olaniyi Osoba in a statement on Thursday, stated that the salutation will hold on Friday, 4th February at Ebony Vaults and Garden, Ikoyi, Lagos State.
Osoba asked members of the general public who reside and work around Ikoyi not to panic on hearing the gunshot salute.
“Especially, those around the Ebony Vaults and Garden are not to panic but go about their normal businesses as all necessary safety measures had been put in place.”
Shonekan served as head of the Interim National Government from 26th August 1993 to 17th November 1993.
He died on 11th January 2022, at the age of 85.
