Arrest, prosecute lawmakers involved in budget padding scandal now, CDHR tells EFCC, ICPC

The Committee for the Defence of Human Rights on Tuesday called on the anti-graft agencies, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission, to arrest and prosecute all the lawmakers found culpable in the 2016 budget padding scandal.
CDHR National Publicity Secretary, Rasheed Ropo, in a statement said that with confessional statements by a lawmaker, Abdulmumin Jubrin , the EFCC and ICPC did not need to further delay the arrest and prosecution of those involved in the budget padding scandal.
The human rights body, however, threatened to storm the National Assembly if the anti-graft agencies refused to take necessary action against all those involved in the scandal.
The CDHR lamented that the current development in the National Assembly concerning the 2016 budget padding scandal indicated that the political and economic situation had been in bad shape, following the role played by some self – centered politicians in the affairs of the country.
The statement reads, ”As a human rights organisation, we cannot continue to watch these leaders continue to ruin our countries, hence we are using our medium to call on the Economic a Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) to use the very many confessional Statements by Hon. Abdulmumin Jibrin to arrest and prosecute those involved in the 2016 budget padding at the National Assembly.
”We urge the EFCC and ICPC not to wait for the body language of anybody to do the job which they were established to do. They should do their job and put things right in the country because the so called accusations and counter-accusations going on is the answer to the prayers of the common man on the streets, who is expecting the dividends of Democracy because their unity for corruption is against the benefit of the common man’.
”For us at the CDHR, we are keenly watching the way the law enforcement agents will handle Hon. Jibrin’s statements, then if we see anything less to the satisfaction of Nigerians, we will mobilise Nigerians to occupy the National Assembly for condoning corruption against the policy of the government of the day.”
