Assembly seeks incorporation of vocational studies in higher institutions’ curricula

The Ogun State House of Assembly has said that tertiary institutions in the state should incorporate the teaching of entrepreneurship and vocational studies in their curricula so as to produce self-reliant graduates.

Chairman of the Assembly’s Committee on Education, Science and Technology, Hon. Victor Fasanya, stated this while on facility assessment visit to the Tai Solarin University of Education, Ijagun, Ijebu Ode, and the Ogun State College of Health Technology, Ilese Ijebu.

Fasanya, who led other members of the committee to the institutions, commended the initiatives of the TASUED management in the training of graduates, who would contribute meaningfully to the socio-economic development of the society.

According to him, the institution had been positioned as a leading force in the teaching of entrepreneurial and vocational education, required for employment generation and wealth creation in achieving increased gross domestic product for the nation.

Responding shortly after inspecting completed and ongoing projects on the TASUED campus, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Oluyemisi Obilade, stated that the institution was committed to producing an all grounded and educationally sound technologically advanced personnel, that could conveniently drive the economy of the state and the nation.

The school curricula, she noted, were designed to reduce high dependence of university products on white-collar jobs, disclosing that the institution had also designed a workstudy programme to allow indigent students to engage in various vocations to cater for their tuition fees.
