Attacks: Gunmen kill 30 in Niger

Some unidentified gunmen have reportedly invaded Sarkin Pawa, headquarters of Munyan Local Government Area of Niger State, killing no fewer than 30 people, on Tuesday.

The attack, which was first recorded in Kachiwe village, allegedly spread to adjourning villages.

The armed bandits were said to have arrived at the village on motorcycles, shooting sporadically to scare the villagers, thereby killing many people.

The bandits reportedly took their onslaught to adjourning communities where many others were also killed.

Secretary to the Niger State Government, Alhaji Ahmed Ibrahim Matane, who confirmed the attack in Minna, did not indicate the number of casualties in the attacks.

He said that the state government would not leave any stone unturned in its efforts to rid the state of crime and appealed to the residents of the state to provide credible information on activities of criminal elements in the area in a bid to curtail a reoccurrence.

He said, “What is happening to us in Niger State in terms of insecurity is beyond our powers and this is why we are calling on the FG to come to our rescue immediately.”

The Commissioner of Police, Niger State Command, Monday Bala Kuryas, said that “A team of policemen have been dispatched to the area to safeguard the lives and properties of people of Sarkin Pawa.”
