Reports reaching The Point have it that Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Abdulrasheed Bawa, was rushed out of the Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Thursday, after he slumped at a programme.

Bawa was one of the guests at a ceremony on the 3rd National Identity Day 2021, at the banquet hall of the Presidential Villa.

He was said to be giving his goodwill message on the theme: “Identity, a tool for sustainable digital economy and National Security,” when he suddenly stopped speaking.

He was said to be talking about a man the commission arrested in Ibadan, Oyo State, with 116 SIM cards when the incident happened.

Bawa was reported to have stopped talking and covered his face with his right palm, saying, “Please, excuse me, I can’t continue.”

He was reportedly assisted to his seat by the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Ali Pantami, and other senior officials at the event, but the anti-graft czar reportedly slumped on his seat and he was immediately rushed out of the seat of power.

The Master of Ceremony later announced that the Bawa’s condition was stable.

“I am happy to announce to you that the EFCC Chairman is now stable,” he said.

The Point learnt that Bawa was rushed out of Aso Villa to a yet to be identified hospital for proper healthcare.

Efforts to confirm the status of Bawa through Wilson Uwujaren, Head, Media & Publicity of the EFCC were unsuccessful, as at press time.
