The Catholic Bishop of Oyo Diocese, Most Rev. Emmanuel Badejo has said the election of Pope Leo XIV has shown that the Catholic Church is not afraid of going into New direction under the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

In a statement he issued on Friday celebrating the emergence of the new Pontiff, the Chief Shepherd of the Catholic Diocese described the new Pope as “a healthy mix of America, Peru and the African Patriarch, Augustine.”

He said, “We celebrate the new Pope Leo XIV. Welcome to a Catholic Church that is not afraid of going in a new direction under the guidance of the Holy Spirit by electing an American Pope for the first time ever, and an Augustinian to walk in the steps of the patriarch and teacher, faithful to the teaching of Jesus Christ. He did not leave the Virgin Mary behind either…Such a healthy mix of America, Peru and the African patriarch. Augustine…”

“Thanks to America which, after giving us President Trump also produces Pope Leo XIV as a pastoral counterweight. God thrives in awesome surprises. And God has more to come I think…. Alleluia to the victorious Lord!”
