Boko Haram Agency:  Don’t deepen Nigeria’s problems, Tanko warns

National Chairman of the National Conscience Party, Tanko Yinusa, has warned the Senate  may plunge Nigeria in deeper problems if the bill seeking education and rehabilitation for arrested Boko Haram members is considered.

The Senate had recently deliberated on a bill that seeks to establish an agency that would see to the rehabilitation, de-radicalisation and integration of repentant insurgents in the country.

The bill was sponsored by Ibrahim Gaidam of Yobe East Senatorial District.

Following this, Tanko said the development might create more problems for the country.

“The move is totally uncalled for. How will such be considered? These people may put this country in deeper problems. Creating such an agency would amount to a waste of money. Moreover, what will happen to the agency after winning the war against the insurgents? The next thing is for the people there to create more Boko Haram so that there will be work for them. We just have to be careful as a country. And the Senate needs to be careful so that they don’t plunge the country into confusion and problems,” Tanko said.

He also advised the President to give the military all the necessary support to enable them to crush the insurgents.
