The Director-General of the National Lottery Regulatory Commission, Lanre Gbajabiamila, has expressed confidence that the national lottery would boost the nation’s Internally Generated Revenue as a result of the anticipated boom in the lottery business.

Gbajabiamila stated that the transformation process of the sector of the economy, which began in 2017, had started to yield positive results raising income from N400 million to well over a billion naira in recent months.

In an interview with the media in his Jabi, Abuja Office, Gbajabiamila said that the outcome portrayed enhanced gains for stakeholders in the lottery industry and its value chains.

He said, “The Commission had been executing resourceful policies, measures and programmes in the last four years, aimed at improving lottery business in all aspects with emphasis on the welfare of its workers, betterment of the stakeholders and higher revenues for the country.

“The steadfast efforts on policies and measures are beginning to yield fruit which the nation would soon reap in a big boom expected in the gaming industry.”

Gbajabiamila disclosed that on assumption of office, he commenced a transformation process that led to the restructuring of the Commission from three directorates to five with five statutory Units which created more opportunities for career growth and progression for staff.

He said that new measures were also introduced to enhance the welfare of staff while providing them with necessary facilities to ease and improve their on-the-job performance.

He added, “With greater motivation and enhanced performance, workers are now being promoted as and when due compared to past experience of irregular and delayed promotion.

“Without sounding immodest, it is on record that no previous administration in the Commission had done better on matters of staff welfare. It is also on record that no previous administration had performed better than my administration on revenue generation for the Federal Government.

“Our revenue profile has been on a steady increase, regardless of the challenges faced by the Commission while trying to perform our regulatory functions.”
