Boxing: Byrd named to officiate Mayweather,McGregor’s bout

World Boxing Hall of Fame member, Robert Byrd, has been appointed referee for the
blockbuster bout between Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor.
A meeting of the Nevada Athletic Commission, which has licenced the Saturday, August 26
fight, handed control of the ring to the veteran official.
The judges will be two Americans, Burt Clements and Dave Moretti, along with Italian Guido
Cavalleri.
The meeting will also decide the contentious issue of glove size, which has been debated by
both Mayweather and McGregor in the lead-up.
A vote will be taken on whether the US boxing legend and UFC champion will wear eight-ounce
gloves.
Byrd’s life away from boxing included being a California Highway Patrol officer for more
than 30 years.
His wife Adalaide Byrd is a mixed martial arts judge who officiated at 2016’s UFC 202, where
McGregor was beaten by Nate Diaz.
MMAFighting.com have also reported the formality of Mayweather and McGregor being approved
for boxing licences.
