Buhari appoints new Postmaster General of NIPOST

President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the appointment of Adepoju Adeyemi Sunday as the new Postmaster General /Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Postal Service.

This is contained in a statement signed by Uwa Suleiman, the spokesperson to the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami, on Wednesday in Abuja.

Suleiman said: “The appointment followed the recommendations made by Pantami.’’

She said that Sunday was appointed for an initial term of five years.

The new appointee is a professional accountant and a former member of the House of Representatives who represented Ibarapa East/Ido Federal Constituency of Oyo State.

The appointment of the new PMG of NIPOST is with immediate effect.

Three weeks ago, the Federal Government, through Pantami, approved the appointment of Bulus Yakubu as acting Postmaster General of the Federation.

This followed the suspension of Ismail Adewusi, who was appointed in 2019.

This was according to a statement signed by NIPOST’s Director, Corporate Communications, Franklin Alao.

Adewusi was suspended over issues relating to the contentious stamp duty.

He was reported to have been in a superiority tussle with some members of the NIPOST board.

During the tenure of Adewusi, the Federal Government declared that NIPOST was the agency authorised to produce and collect stamp duties across the country.

By this declaration, NIPOST reclaimed the right to collect stamp duties from the Federal Inland Revenue Service.

This ended the prolonged years of scuffle between both agencies on who had the authority to collect stamp duties in Nigeria.
