CCL: There’s no stopping us – Rivers United coach, Eguma

Technical Manager of Rivers United Football Club, Stanley Eguma, has said that Al-Merrikh Football Club of Sudan has no power to stop his club from advancing into the next stage of the CAF Champions’ League.

The coach said his team would intensify on the 3-0 first leg lead to complete the rout tomorrow (Saturday) when they meet in the second leg.

Eguma is optimistic that his wards will be up and doing, as they are determined to play in the money-spinning CAF Champions’ League.

Ivoirian striker, Guy Kuemian, was the star of Rivers United’s first leg show last Sunday, as the Nigeria Professional Football League club stylishly overpowered the Sudanese outfit, Al-Merrikh, a feat they hope to repeat on Saturday. Diego Garzitto, Al-Merrikh’s head coach, cut a forlorn figure shortly after the loss, and he is still worrying about how to stop the aggressive Rivers United boys. He said his boys lost to poor pitch in the first leg.

“Our pitch in Omdurman is grass, but we had to play on an artificial surface in Port Harcourt,” he said.

Rivers will still rely on Sunday Rotimi, Markson Ojobo, Zoumana Doumbia, Atuloma Emeka, Ayobami Asekunowo, Festus Austine and Esosa Igbinoba to complete their movement to the money spinning league.

Eguma described Al-Merrikh as a tough side, saying that his boys are also up to the task. “Al-Merrikh played well. I don’t think it was a bad game for us, and we are not losing sleep on the return leg,” he said.
