A Magistrate’s Court sitting in Osogbo, Osun State has ordered that five suspected men should be remanded at the Ilesa Correctional Centre over the alleged murder of a man named Quadri Audu.

The five suspects, arraigned on two-count-charge bordering on conspiracy and murder, are Oyebode Sunday, aged 31; Emmanuel Oluwafemi, 22; Adeoye Sodiq, 20; Lawal Lukuman, 20; and Olayanju Dare, 25.

The prosecutor, Inspector Fatoba Temitope, informed the court that the five defendants and others now at large, engaged the victim in a physical combat that led to his death.

The charge against them read that “You (defendants) and others now at large, on April 19, 2022 at about 2pm at Igbajo junction, Ada, Osun State, in Osogbo Magisterial District, did conspire among yourselves to commit a felony to wit: murder and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 324 of the Criminal Code, Cap 34, Volume II, Laws of Osun, 2002.

“You, on the same day and place, did unlawfully engage in a physical combat with one Quadri Audu which led to his death and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under section 319(1) of the Criminal Code, Cap 34, Volume II Laws of Osun State, 2022.”

The defendants’ pleas were not taken because of the severe nature of the charge.

Magistrate A. Adeyeba ordered that the defendants be remanded in Ilesa Correctional Centre, adding that the police prosecution should forward their case file to the Director of Public Prosecution, Osun State, for legal advice.

He said that the matter should be mentioned in Iree Magistrate Court on June 14.
