Magistrate Folake Olokoyo of an Ilorin Magistrates’ Court, on Monday, ordered that a 40-year-old man, Olasunkanmi Alade, be remanded at Oke-Kura Correctional Centre for allegedly killing his father.

Olokoyo, subsequently, adjourned the matter till February 7, for further mention.

Police prosecutor, Sgt. Olajide Sekonda, earlier told the court that following the information received on January 6, a lifeless body with visible deep cut on his left hand was seen lying on the road at Oke-Apa area, Omu-Aran.

The deceased, he said, was later identified as Dele Alade, father of the defendant.

Sekonda said that the police evacuated the body to the General Hospital, Omu-Aran, just as it aided the subsequent arrest of the defendant.

The prosecutor said that investigation conducted by the police led to the recovery of the deceased’s handset in the defendant’s pocket with his SIM card dislodged.

According to him, the defendant, on January 5, at about 8pm, prior to the death of the deceased, engaged his father in a physical fight, which took the efforts of other relatives to resolve.

He prayed for the remand of the defendant pending the completion of further investigations.

The suspect, charged with culpable homicide, which contravened Section 221 of the Penal Code Law, pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against him.
