Court remands man for raping 11-year-old girl

A Chief Magistrate’s Court sitting in Osogbo, the Osun State capital, has ordered that a 36-year-old man, Adewale Temitope, should be remanded at a correctional facility in the state for allegedly raping a minor.

Temitope was accused of defiling the unsuspecting 11-year-old-girl at Ogo-Oluwa area of Osogbo with a threat that he would kill her if she revealed what transpired to anyone.

The charge leveled against him read that “Adewale Temitope, sometimes in the month of February 2022, at Ogo-Oluwa area, Osogbo, Osun State in the Osogbo Magisterial District, did unlawful have sexual intercourse with one Blue Rose, aged 11 years and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 31(1)(2) of the Child’s Rights Law of Osun State 2007.

“Adewale Temitope, on the same date, time, place and in the aforementioned Magisterial District, did unlawfully take undue advantage of one Blue Rose, aged 11 years and sexually exploited her and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 32 of the Child’s Rights Laws of Osun State 2007.

“Adewale Temitope, on the same date, time, place and in the aforementioned Magisterial District, did unlawfully and indecently assault one Blue Rose aged 11 years and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 360 of the Criminal Code, Cap 34, Volume II Laws of Osun State of Nigeria 2002.

“Adewale Temitope, on the same date, time, place and in the aforementioned Magisterial District, did with intent to intimidate or annoy, threaten to kill one Blue Rose, aged 11 years, if she revealed to anyone that you sexually assaulted her and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 86 of the Criminal Code, Cap 34, Volume Il Laws of Osun State of Nigeria 2002.”

The defendant’s plea was not taken by the court.

Police prosecutor, Inspector Elisha Olusegun, informed the court that the girl was traumatised after the alleged act.

Chief Magistrate Olusegun Ayilara ordered that the defendant should be remanded in Ilesa Correctional Centre while he adjourned the case till August 12 for mention.
