Court remands man for robbing, raping girls in Osun

AN Ile-Ife Magistrate’s Court in Osun State, on Thursday, remanded a 27-year-old man, Bidemi Olanrewaju, for alleged robbery and rape.

The Prosecutor, ASP Emmanuel Abdullahi, told the court that the defendant robbed two girls of their belongings and raped one of them thereafter on July 25, 2020, around 4:25 am, at Fajuyi area, Ile-Ife.

Abdullahi said that the defendant armed himself with a gun and an axe to rob 20-year-old girl (name withheld) and one other of their two mobile phones and a bag containing cash sum of N4,500.

He added that the defendant unlawfully had in his possession one locally made single barrel gun, which he used for the robbery.

According to him, Olanrewaju unlawfully assaulted and had carnal knowledge of the 20-year-old girl after dispossessing her of her items.

Abdullahi said the offence was contrary to Sections 358 and 360 and punishable under Section 1(1), (2)(a)(b),3(1) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2002 and Robbery and Firearms (Special Provisions) Act, Cap R11 Vol 14, Laws of Federation, 2004 respectively.

The Magistrate, A. A. Ayeni, did not take the plea of the defendant due to the magnitude of the allegations.

Ayeni ordered that the defendant be remanded in Ile-Ile Correctional Centre, pending legal advice from the Department of Public Prosecutions (DPP). Case was adjourned till September 16 for mention.
