Court remands man for stealing air conditioner

A 39-year-old-man, Azeez Kehinde, has been arraigned before a Magistrate’s Court sitting in Osogbo, Osun State, for allegedly stealing an air conditioner.

The police accused Kehinde of breaking in and removing an air conditioner at the shop of one David Ajao around 4am at Number 7, Ayoola Street, Osogbo.

Police prosecutor, Inspector Kayode Adeoye, informed the court that the defendant committed the act alongside others now at large.

The charge that was brought against him read that “Azeez Kehinde and others at large, on May 23, 2022 at about 4am, at Number 7, Ayoola Street, Osogbo in the Osogbo Magisterial District, did conspire to commit felony to wit stealing and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 516 of the Criminal Code, Cap 34, Volume II Laws of Osun State of Nigeria 2002.

“You and others at large, on the same date, time and place in the aforementioned Magisterial District, did break into the shop of one David Ajao of Number 7, Ayoola Street, Osogbo with intent to commit felony therein and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 410 and punishable under Section 413 of the Criminal Code, Cap 34, Volume II Laws of Osun State of Nigeria 2002.

“You, Azeez Kehinde and others now at large, on the same date, time and place in the aforementioned Magisterial District, did steal one air conditioner valued at N90,000 only, property of one David Ajao and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 383 and punishable under Section 390(9) of the Criminal Code, CAP 34, Laws of Osun State.”

When the counts were read to Kehinde, represented by his counsel, Najite Okobe, he pleaded guilty.

Adeoye urged the court to adjourn the matter for him to tender the facts of the matter since the defendant owned up to the allegations.

Magistrate A. O. Daramola adjourned the matter till July 6 for presentation of facts. She ordered that the defendant be remanded in Ilesa Correctional Centre.
