Court remands man over alleged armed robbery, attempted murder

A 27-year-old man, Suleiman Afeez, has been remanded at the Ilesa Correctional Centre by a Magistrate Court sitting in Osogbo, Osun State, for allegedly robbing some residents of the town and stabbing one of his victims on the head with a broken bottle.

Police prosecutor, Inspector Elisha Olusegun, said that Afeez and others at large, armed with broken bottles and other dangerous weapons, robbed two persons of their money and other belongings on January 5, at about 4:40am at Oba Ile area of the state.
Olusegun said that the defendant robbed one Oladejobi Peter of the sum of N350, 000. Afeez was also accused of conspiring with his fleeing gang members to rob one Muhammed Musibau of the sum of N250, 000, two bags of palm kernel and two scales of measurement on the same day, place and time.

The defendant allegedly attempted to kill Peter by stabbing him with a broken bottle on the head.
In all, five count-charges of conspiracy, armed robbery and attempted murder were brought against him.

He was said to have committed offences contrary to Section 6(b), and punishable under sections 1(1) and 1(1)(2)(a)(b) of the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provisions) Act, Cap RII Volume 14, Laws of Nigeria, 2004.

His offences also allegedly contravened sections 516 and 320(1) of the Criminal Code, Cap 34, Volume II, Laws of Osun, 2002.
The defendant was represented in court by his counsel, Tunbosun Oladipupo. The court did not take his plea.

Magistrate A. O. Odeleye ordered that Afeez be remanded at the Ilesa Correctional Centre pending the February 15 adjourned date, for mention.
