Six suspected hoodlums, namely Nurudeen Suleiman, 34; Odekanmi Opeyemi, 22; Adeniyi Akeem, 42; Egbaji Morufu, 45; Wahab Azeez, 42; and Sodiq Adesina Wasiu, 42; have been arraigned before a Magistrate’s Court in Osogbo, Osun State.

Police Prosecutor, Inspector Elisha Olusegun, informed the court that the defendants were arrested for attempting to kill one Omoniyi Olufemi by inflicting machete cuts on his head.

The suspects were reported to have committed the act on August 23 in Gbongan town.

The police officer explained that the town was thrown into confusion as the men attacked Olufemi in public glare.

The charge brought against them read that “You (defendants) and others at large, on August 23, 2022, at about 11:30am in Gbongan, Osun State, did with intent to kill, unlawfully inflicted machete cuts on the head of one Omoniyi Olufemi.

“You did, at the same time, place and date, conduct yourselves in a manner likely to cause breach of peace by publicly engaging one Omoniyi Olufemi in a physical assault.”

Olusegun said that the defendants committed offences contrary to Sections 516, 320, 335, 517 and 249(d) of the Criminal Code, Cap 34, Volume II, Laws of Osun, 2002.

They, however, made a not guilty plea.

Magistrate A. Adeyeba ordered that the defendants be remanded in Ilesa Correctional Centre as Taofeek Oyesiji and Tunbosun Oladipupo, counsels to the defendants, failed to file formal bail applications for their clients.

The court adjourned the case till October 5 for mention.
