Court remands truck driver for allegedly defrauding buyer of N8.65m

A Magistrate’s Court sitting in Osogbo, Osun State has ordered the remand of a 53-year-old-man, Folorunsho Olowookere, in prison for allegedly duping another man of the sum of N8, 650,000.

Olowookere, a driver, was arraigned by the police for allegedly failing to produce a tipper (truck) for which he allegedly collected the said sum from one Afolabi Rauf.

The police prosecutor, Inspector Adeoye Kayode, informed the court that the defendant stole the sum of N8, 650,000 from the complainant in March.

The charge brought against him read that “You, Folorunsho Olowookere, and others now at large, sometimes in the month of March, 2022 at Guaranty Trust Bank, Ogo-Oluwa area, Osogbo, Osun State, did conspire to commit a felony to wit obtaining money under false pretense and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 8(a) and punishable under Section 1(1)a(3) of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Related Offences Act 2006.

“You (defendant) did obtain the sum of N8, 650,000 only through your Guaranty Trust Bank account number 0049277642 with promise to sell one of your tipper trucks to one Afolabi Rauf, a pretense you know to be false and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 1 (1)a(b) and punishable under Sub-section 3 of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Related Offences Act, 2009.

“You, Folorunsho Olowookere, and others at large, on the same year and place in the aforementioned Magisterial District did steal the sum of N8,650,000 only property of one Afolabi Rauf and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 383 and punishable under Section 390(9) of the Criminal Code, Cap 34, Volume II, Laws of Osun, 2002.”

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the allegations.

Magistrate A. Adeyeba ordered Olowookere to be remanded in Ilesa Correctional Centre and asked him to approach the court with a formal bail application.
