Cracks in Oyo APC as factions hold parallel congress today

There are signs that all is not well within the ruling All Progressives Congress in Oyo State as two factions within the party hold parallel state congresses on Saturday.
A faction of the party that is loyal to Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State, controlled by the state Chairman, Chief Akin Oke, is holding its congress at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba, Ibadan while  another faction called Unity Forum, is holding a parallel congress at the Obafemi Awolowo Stadium, Liberty Road, Ibadan.
It will be recalled that the party had witnessed parallel ward and local government congresses prior to the May 12 local government elections in the state.
Each faction had claimed to have produced authentic results.
The Oke-led APC had earlier dismissed the parallel local government congresses held by the Unity Forum, which it called “a dissident group within the party”, adding that the “purported parallel congresses is illegal, null and void. We (APC) are an indivisible body”.
However, members of the Unity Forum comprising Minister of Communication, Adebayo Shittu; a serving Senator, Monsurat Akande, and other bigwigs in the party had on May 17 petitioned President Muhammadu Buhari on the alleged threats to their lives, saying that the interest of the party was supreme to personal lust.
Meanwhile, our correspondent reports that the ongoing parallel congresses in the Oyo State capital are, so far, peaceful.
