Dangote truck driver arrested for crushing woman to death in Lagos

A driver of Dangote mixer truck with a plate number “Kano MDB 531 XA” has been arrested for crushing a woman to death in Lagos State.

The Director, Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, Adebayo Taofiq, who made this known in a statement issued on Monday, said that the mixer truck failed brake and crushed the woman to death around Abule-Egba inward Mobil Filling Station beside Jubilee Bridge Opposite Zenith Bank, Lagos.

Taofiq, who said the truck driver was arrested and handed over to the police by LASTMA officials, explained that the trapped woman’s dead body was evacuated underneath the Dangote truck by LASTMA officials and immediately handed over to policemen from the Oko-Oba Police Station.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that the Dangote mixer truck while on a high speed lost control as a result of a brake failure and while trying to swerved into a drainage channel crushed an innocent woman.

“While the truck driver was immediately apprehended by LASTMA officials, Police men from Oko-Oba Police Station provided security backup while the rescue operations lasted.”

Taofiq stated that “LASTMA’s Abdul Salam Nurudeen (Alpha, Zone 19 Abule-Egba/Tollgate) who led the recovery operations confirmed that his team were supported by other road sympathisers to remove the trapped dead body.

“The General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, however warned truck owners/drivers to always ensure their trucks are properly checked including the braking system before embarking on any journey within or outside Lagos.”
