With the winding up of the General Debate of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, USA, Monday, employees across the Dangote Group’s operations in Africa switched on their ‘Sustainability Week’ with initiatives aimed at empowering host communities for a sustainable future.

The week long programme runs from September 27 through 30, 2021 and is themed “Building a Sustainable Future – The Dangote Way”.

This year’s theme and initiatives, according to a statement from the DIL, are focused around six core UN SDGs, including, poverty, good health and wellbeing, quality education, gender equality, clean water and sanitation, and climate action, according to a statement from the organisation.

“The events will avail sustainability champions across Dangote operations the opportunity to execute social projects that align with the Group’s community engagement objectives and with optimum benefits for local beneficiaries,” the statement added.

The sustainability week is entirely voluntary for employees and is aimed at helping to “project the social side of the Dangote brand, helping to build goodwill and cordiality with host communities, thereby enhancing the Group’s social license to operate.”
