Dare re-emerges as Zamfara PDP guber candidate

BY MAYOWA SAMUEL

Dauda Lawal Dare has been declared winner of the just concluded Zamfara State governorship primary of the Peoples Democratic Party.

Declaring the results of the primary at the PDP state headquarters in Gusau Friday, the chairman of the election, Hassan Hyte, who is also the PDP chairman in Kaduna State, Dare won with 455 votes while the other two opponents polled one vote each.

Hyte said further that the total number of votes were 255, while 431 delegates were accredited, and 428 voted, adding that three delegates did not vote during the election.

According to him, four were declared invalid, and that the election was conducted in a peaceful atmosphere.

“The election was free, fair and credible as enshrined in the guiding principles of our party and the law,” he said.

In his remarks, shortly after the election, the state PDP chairman, Ahmed Sani Kaura, expressed satisfaction with the peaceful conduct of the election and commended the national headquarters of the party for the support towards the success of the election.

Recall that the Federal High Court sitting in Gusau had last week nullified the previous governorship primary of the party that brought in Dare as its governorship flag-bearer following a suit filed before it by Ibrahim Shehu that challenged the credibility of Dare’s victory at the primary.
