Delta: Confusion as tanker, 2 other vehicles explode

There was pandemonium in Ibusa, Oshimili North Local Government Area of Delta State as a tanker laden with petroleum product exploded.

The tanker was reportedly affected by fire which emanated from an accident involving a Toyota Sienna and an Hijet truck.

It was gathered that 13 persons were involved in the accident which occurred at the Immigration Junction, Ibusa, along the Asaba -Ogwashi-Uku Expressway.

The crash was said to have resulted from over-speeding.

A source (preferred anonymity), said that the tanker, which broke down and being repaired, was without warning signs.

“Fire fighters from the state fire service battled tirelessly to put out the fire at night but, somehow, the fire increased in intensity, causing a heavy gridlock on the road,” the source was quoted as saying.

The Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps in the state, Udeme Eshiet, said that the three vehicles were affected by the explosion.

Eshiet explained that all the 13 persons who were involved in the accident were rescued unhurt.
