There was pandemonium on Monday in the Zango-Kulende area of Ilorin, capital of Kwara State, after a tree suddenly fell on a woman and killed her instantly.

About ten others standing under the tree sustained different levels of injuries.

The woman died around 8:00am after the big tree was removed.

It was gathered that the deceased and the injured persons were waiting by the roadside beside Baystar petrol station in the Zango-Kulende area, opposite Oke-Andi junction, Ilorin, to board commercial vehicles to their various destinations before the tree fell.

The tree was said to have cut some electricity cables and destroyed shops in the area while falling.

Some shop owners in the area and a vulcaniser known as Mallam Abdulrasheed, escaped death as they were yet to open for business at the time of the incident.

The injured victims were rushed to a private hospital in the area for treatment.

Some of them were treated and discharged, but those in critical conditions were referred to the Government General Hospital and the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital, Oke-Oyi.

Residents were left in confusion after the big tree collapsed.
