An angry man and his relatives have descended heavily on doctors and nurses of the Osun State University Teaching Hospital, Osogbo, after losing his pregnant wife and baby during a labour process.

It was gathered that pandemonium broke out at the hospital last Monday after a heavily pregnant woman was rushed to the emergency ward of the hospital at about 8:30pm.

The man, simply identified as Stephen, accused doctors and nurses on duty of negligence, claiming that the medical personnel watched his wife bleed to death.

He added that the unborn baby was also pronounced dead after examinations were carried out on the deceased.

“It is painful that UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital Osogbo has turned into something else. Doctors and nurses become so lackadaisical and do not care about human lives. The moment I brought in my wife, I had expected the two doctors I met on duty to immediately attend to her, but, what did I get, they started tossing me about in the name of registering her first and paying money.

“Even while I was at that, no one bothered about my wife who was in pain and bleeding till she died. Now, I have been rendered a widower just because some people failed to do what they are being paid to do,” he lamented.

The Point gathered that Stephen later mobilised his brothers to the hospital and started attacking doctors and nurses in sight.

Displeased by the assault they suffered, doctors in the hospital, in solidarity with their affected colleagues, downed tools and refused to attend to patients.

It was gathered that many patients who visited the hospital were not attended to by any doctor the following day as the medical personnel protested the attack.

When contacted by The Point, one of the image makers of the hospital who pleaded not to be named confirmed the attack, saying the hospital management has been appealing to doctors to return to duty.

“We are settling the issue and speaking with doctors to return to work. However, some of our senior doctors have been attending to our patients and other medical personnel are working. So, what has happened has not affected our services,” one of the spokespersons to the hospital said.
