DSS arraign Facebook user for posting Osun Speaker’s nude pictures

A 48-year- old Facebook user, Joshua Sayo, has been dragged before an Osun Magistrate’s Court sitting in Osogbo for allegedly publishing nude pictures of Hon. Timothy Owoeye, the Speaker of the state Assembly, on his Facebook page.

Arraigning Sayo on Monday, the Department of State Service in Osogbo informed the court that the accused defamed the Speaker by publishing the pictures and words online.

The Prosecutor, B.O Nweke, said Sayo, who operated a Facebook account “Sayo Oki”, committed the offence on June 19, 2020 in Osogbo.

Nweke alleged that the defendant did publish contemptuous pictures and words on his Facebook page against the Speaker.

The DSS argued that Sayo knew the contents he published were false.

The prosecutor said the defendant committed an offence contrary to Section 374(1)b & 374 and punishable under Section 375 of the Criminal Code Cap 34, Vol. 2 Laws of Osun State of Nigeria, 2002.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges levelled against him.

The defence counsel, Ibraheem Imran, applied for the bail of the defendant in the most liberal term.

In her ruling, Magistrate Modupe Awodele granted the bail of the defendant in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.

The case was adjourned till 14th of July, 2020 for hearing.
