Ebonyi to support CIBN on digital financing

The Commissioner for Commerce and Industry in Ebonyi State, Stephen Odoh, has stressed the need to support the Chartered Institute of Bankers in Nigeria in its efforts to facilitate digital financing.

The Commissioner spoke during the annual general meeting and election of the Ebonyi State chapter of the Institute at the new complex of the Central Bank of Nigeria at the Centenary City, Abakaliki.

While swearing in the newly elected executive members of the institute in the state, the South-East Zonal Manager of the Institute, Maria Nwagboso Kalu, charged them to work in accordance with the professional ethics.

He said that the CIBN Act 5 of 2007 empowered the body to control entry into the banking profession, set standards for bankers, as well as maintain professional ethics through sanctions to defaulting members.

According to her, corporate members of the Institute include the Central Bank of Nigeria, the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation, Deposit Money Banks, Microfinance Banks, Mortgage Banks, Discount Houses and NIBSS among others.

In the election, Dr Livinus Onu emerged as the Chairman, while Chidiebere Ogbuogu became the Vice-Chairman. Uche Raymond Kanu was elected as Second Vice-Chairman, Paul Ezejitu emerged as General Secretary, while Uchenna Duru became First Assistant Secretary.

Others are Ezeh Nwali, Second Assistant Secretary; Chinedu J. Eze, Treasurer; Precious Okechukwu, Financial Secretary; Emmanuel Nwoga, Auditor; Ogwudu Chukwudi, PRO; and Chris Adayi of CBN who retained his position as Ex-Officio.

In his acceptance speech, Onu lauded all members for seeing them as worthy to steer the ship of the institute. He pledged to carry the Institute to greater heights.

Delivering a lecture titled, ‘The future of banking in a digital economy,’ the CBN Controller in the state, Christopher Adayi, represented by Eze Nwali, stressed the importance of digital financing.
