Edo APC governorship aspirant declares support for party’s candidate

One of the 11 All Progressives Congress governorship aspirants in Edo State, Blessing Agbomhere, has urged the state acting Chairman, Jarret Tenebe, to reposition the party and bring in reforms ahead of the September governorship election.

He also expressed his readiness to support the party’s governorship candidate, Senator Monday Okpebholo, to enable him and the party to win the governorship election.

Agbomhere spoke in Abuja on Friday while responding to questions from newsmen on the brewing crisis in the party over the declaration of Okpebholo as the governorship candidate.

Okpebholo polled 12,433 votes to defeat Agbomhere, Edo federal lawmaker, Dennis Idahosa and nine other aspirants after the previous poll was declared inconclusive.

Following the declaration of the senator as the candidate, some aspirants led by Idahosa rejected the result.

The Edo federal lawmaker threatened to drag the National Working Committee of the ruling party to court for cancelling the initial February 17 primary.

But Agbomhere told journalists that as a co-contestant, he could not begrudge Okpebholo for winning the poll.

The immediate past Zonal Organising Secretary of the APC also called on the State APC Chairman to carry out sweeping reforms and ensure he unites all the aggrieved members as the party strives to reclaim the state from the People’s Democratic Party.

He said, “The manner with which Tenebe hosted the primaries and managed the fallout is a testimony to his political sagacity.

“It would be a mark of honour to see the state chairman help return Edo State to APC. I am ready to give him the necessary support and cooperation to succeed in his new assignment.

“I am also ready to support Edo APC governorship candidate, Senator Monday Okpebholo, to enable him and the party to win the governorship election in a landslide come September this year.”
