Edo chief education inspector commends teachers as nation builders

The Chief Inspector of Education in charge of Igueben Local Government Area of Edo State, Mr. Gabriel Orire, has described teachers as nation builders.
Orire said this while delivering a goodwill message to teachers at the State Executive Council meeting of the Nigeria Union of Teachers at Eguare Primary School, Igueben.
The opening session of the meeting was attended by representatives of the Conference of Primary School Head Masters of Nigeria and the All Nigeria Conference of Principals of Secondary Schools.
Also present at the opening session was a delegation of the state Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development and the Committee on Sensitisation of Stakeholders on Elimination of Violence Against Children, who sensitised the teachers on the draft Edo State Priority Plan to end violence against children in conjunction with SMILE and ActionAid.
Orire said the importance of teachers could not be over-emphasised as children, who were the future of the nation, were trained by them.
“Teachers, you know, are great assets to the nation. Teachers are nation builders,” he said.
Presenting the draft of the priority plan to the teachers, the Organisational Development Director of SMILE, Mrs. Maryaan Obidike, disclosed that ending violence against children was a global campaign, which started in 2014.
She said that SMILE developed a simplified version of the child rights law and supported it with 500 copies, adding that to underscore the importance of child protection the First Lady of Edo State, Mrs. Betsy Obaseki, supported it with 10,000 copies, which had been handed over to the Ministry of Education for distribution to schools.
