Edo SSG, four commissioners to dump Obaseki

…reach out to Ize-Iyamu

Following Friday’s disqualification of Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, from the forthcoming primaries of the ruling All Progressives Congress, some key functionaries of the government have begun moves to switch camp.

Top on the list of such key functionaries is the Secretary to the State Government, Osarodion Ogie.

Our correspondent gathered that the SSG, at the weekend, held a meeting in his residence along the Golf Course Road with his core supporters.

According to sources at the meeting, the SSG made it clear that he would not move with Governor Obaseki to any other political party.

The sources claimed that the SSG instructed them to wait for his directives as he was now an independent party to the crisis.

He called on his supporters to keep their faith in his leadership and trust his judgement.

Ogie was quoted as stating that Obaseki came from Lagos to meet them in the party in Edo and so they were not ready to return to Lagos with him following his disqualification and impending defeat.

The SSG, the source added, claimed that if Obaseki had listened to wise counsel then, he would have adhered to suggestions that he should make peace with the APC National Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole.

The SSG was also said to have commissioned some key players to reach out to Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu on how they would throw their support behind the APC leading aspirant.

The SSG is rumoured to be concluding plans to defect with at least four commissioners in Obaseki’s government.
