The Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Dangiwa, and the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ola Olukoyede, have jointly inspected a 753-unit housing estate recently confiscated from former Central Bank of Nigeria Governor, Godwin Emefiele.

This was disclosed in a statement issued Wednesday by Director of Press and Public Relations for the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, Salisu Haiba.

According to the statement, “Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Arc. Ahmed Dangiwa, alongside the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Olanipekun Olukoyede, today led a joint team on a physical site inspection of a confiscated housing estate comprising 753 housing units.”

Dangiwa stated that the Ministry would immediately commence technical and structural assessments of the estate to ensure the integrity of the buildings before they are listed for sale to Nigerians through the Renewed Hope Portal.

“The government of the day is serious about fighting corruption,” the Minister said, commending the EFCC for what he described as “one of the most significant [seizures] in the nation’s history within such a short period.”

He urged Nigerians to support and trust the Commission’s ongoing anti-corruption drive.

Speaking during the visit, EFCC Chairman Olukoyede addressed lingering doubts over the authenticity of the estate.

“The essence of this visit is to show that it is real,” he said, emphasizing the Commission’s commitment to
“transparency and accountability.”

Olukoyede clarified that previous images shared with the public were aerial photographs, prompting the need for this physical inspection to counter public scepticism.

The estate is slated to be integrated into the Federal Government’s National Social Housing Programme under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, aimed at expanding access to affordable housing and reinforcing responsible governance.

The property, located in Plot 109, Cadastral Zone C09, Lokogoma District, Abuja, is 150,500 square meters and includes a mix of duplexes and apartments.

It was officially given over to the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, following a final forfeiture ruling issued by Justice Jude Onwuegbuzie of the FCT High Court on December 2, 2024.
