Electorate must demand accountability from elected Leaders – CACOL

The Centre for Anti-Corruption and Open Leadership, ( CACOL) has called on Nigerians to be vigilant and assess the performance of elected leaders while in office .
Speaking at its Assessment Workshop with the theme : ” Curbing Corruption in Nigeria’s political processes: Establishing a Grassroots Paradigm in Good Governance , Accountability and Transparency in Lagos, the Executive Chairman, CACOL, Mr. Debo Adeniran said  Nigerians must assess the performances of Political office holders.
” We need to ask questions, we need to assess the performances of political office holders. How have they fulfilled the promises they made during electioneering campaigns. We should not be foolish, we should not play the idiot who is being flogging and is not crying out to show that he doesn’t like what is happening to him.
” Nobody can enslave you without your approval. You should not allow your right to be trampled upon. If we keep silent we remain slave forever.
He said CACOL takes the fight against corruption to the grassroots because ” most of the time we don’t see results by fighting it from the elite class level”.
He said CACOL  believes that if the grassroots are empowered on how to tackle corruption, they will be able to fight corruption.
” We have been organising workshops, got feedback and we have asked people to identify corruption in their localities and report back to us”, he said.
He further said that people should not shy away from identify and reporting corrupt practices from their localities saying failure to do this will give the impy that we are satisfied with the way we are being governed.
Also speaking, SERAP Senior Legal Adviser , Barrister Joke Fekumo said Nigerians must be vigilant and made their leaders accountable.
She said SERAP will be ready to receive reports of corruption from the grassroots and do a follow-up on it.
She commended CACOL for its unrelenting efforts at exposing and fighting corruption in the country
