Elder statesman and former Secretary-General of the Commonwealth, Emeka Anyaoku, a group of leaders of thought, statesmen and women in Nigeria, have announced that they will hold an inauguration summit in Lagos State to seek a new democratic constitution for the country.
They announced that at the summit which will be held on Thursday, May 1, 2025 (May Day) in Lagos, a high level committee members that will coordinate the proposed National Political Summit of Nigeria scheduled to hold on May 28 and 29, 2025 will be unveiled by Anyaoku, who chairs The Patriots.
According to a statement issued by the joint secretariat of The Patriots and Nigerian Political Summit Group, initiators of the National Summit, the Pan Nigerian Confab is being put together to x-ray and chart a new course for Nigeria’s constitutional democracy, 25 years after civil rule was reinstituted in Nigeria.
The statement noted that the national summit became imperative, especially as a stakeholders’ response and intervention to heightening insecurity and instability in parts of the country.
The conveners also noted that the national summit, tagged, “Actualising A Constitutional Democracy That Works For All in Nigeria”, is designed to galvanise national consensus on the most suitable and inclusive governance construct and architecture for political cohesion and stability of Nigeria.
According to them, the summit will also explore the ongoing constitution reform process of the Nigerian government as a veritable vista for actualising the popular yearnings of Nigerians for a new democratic people’s constitution capable of neutralizing internal disharmony and separatist insecurity, which they said accounts for massive unabated loss of lives and wanton destructions in the country.
The Patriots-NPSG joint secretariat noted that the unveiling of the summit coordinating committee, to be conducted by the Chairman of The Patriots, Anyaoku, will be held on Thursday in Lagos. L
The statement further announced the composition of the summit coordinating committee, to be inaugurated on Thursday to include former Governor of Ogun State, Gbenga Daniel as a Co-Chairman; former Speaker, House of Reps, Aminu Tambuwal as Co-Chairman; former Governor of Adamawa State, Boni Haruna as a member, and former Governor of Cross River State, Donald Duke as a member.
Others are former Deputy Governor of Nasarawa State, Labaran Maku as a member; former Governor of Ekiti State, Kayode Fayemi as a member; Coordinator, Awolowo Foundation, Tokunbo Awolowo – Dosumu as a member; Chairman, NCFront, Pat Utomi as a member; former Political Adviser, Ben Obi, as a member; former Deputy Governor of Plateau State, Dame Pauline Tallen as a member, and former Minister for Women Affairs, Iyom Josephine Anenih as a member.
Also, delegate 2014 National Confab, Dassy Danjuma as a member; Leader, Civil Rights Movement, Senator Shehu Sanni as a member; NPSG, Southern Kaduna, Shekari Charity as a member; former Minister, Aisha Ismail as a member; Coordinator, South East Governors Forum, Christie Anyanwu as a member; PANDEF, Ankio Briggs as a member.

“Finally, we wish to state that the national summit on the future of Nigeria’s Constitutional Democracy has been slated to hold on the 28th & 29th May, 2025 with its key deliverable as an inclusive Constitutional Bill to be presented to the Federal Government for the actualisation of an all inclusive and popular constitutional reform of Nigeria”, the organisers reaffirmed.
The organisers also invited members of the press to the inauguration to interact with conveners of the summit.
