Enugu community celebrates New Yam Festival in style

August 31, 2022 would remain indelible on the minds of the people of Mbu-Akpoti in Isi-Uzo Local Government Area of Enugu State. That day, the inhabitants, donning colorful attire, trooped out in large numbers to celebrate the new yam festival in grand style.

The festival was attended by stakeholders across the local government council area with the Chairman of Isi-Uzo Local Government Area, Obiora Chibuzo Obeagu, represented by the council Secretary, Azubuike Odo, on the occasion.

The highpoint of this year’s celebration was the commissioning of seven solar powered street lights by Jideofor Ebeh, Commissioner for Commerce and Industry in the state.

The street light was donated to the community by the youth of Mbu Akpoti under the leadership of Irenus Nnaji who doubles as the Leader of Isi-Uzo Legislative Council.

Ebe, while commissioning the street lights, congratulated the youths of the community for their contributions to the development of Mbu. He enjoined them to continue to continue to support developmental efforts in the area and to also be good ambassadors of Mbu, Isi-Uzo, Enugu and Nigeria at large.

Azubuike, who spoke on behalf of the Executive Chairman of Isi-Uzo Local Government, thanked the youths for their vision and commitment to the development of the community. He said that the government would continue to support efforts geared towards the development of rural communities.

The leader of Isi-Uzo Legislative Council, in his remarks, thanked Obeagu for being youth friendly, saying that the Mbu Akpoti youths would continue to support his administration.
Colourful cultural displays were held to the admiration of those who graced the occasion from far and near.

Among the dignitaries at the event were Igwe Sunday Agbo, Eze Utazi 1 of Mbu Akpoti Autonomous Community, Igwe Julius Agbo of Mbu Agudene Autonomous Community, members of Igwe’s cabinet, Ugwu Euzebius; Secretary, Amanyi Development Centre, Nnabuike Ugwu; and Majority leader, Isi-Uzo legislative council, Kenneth Nnaji.
